What did the music sound like in the old Viking town of Birka during the 9th and 10th centuries? This recording gives you an idea of what could have been heard there, based on archaeological finds from the "black earth" of Birka, and Nordic texts of the time. Among the finds from ancient Birka are a bone whirler, a two-holed bone whistle, and an elk-horn bridge for five strings. Styrbjörn Bergelt plays many ancient instruments, and is also joined by some other musicians and singers. This recording comes with a book of 116 pages English version and Swedish, which gives a background to the music.
